Ramon Ray is a technology evangelist and editor of a tech blog who often travels the country speaking and training entrepreneurs on how to use the latest gadgets for smart time management.
Entrepreneurs often run on full throttle in order to manage and grow their small business enterprises. As I mentioned in my previous article on time management, managing a business in today’s fiercely competitive marketplace, takes a great deal of time, focus and commitment. It also requires smart time management. One strategy that can help entrepreneurs and small business owners to stay productive and focused is to use time management gadgets.
“As a tech evangelist with a table, notebook, desktop computer, two monitors, a wireless network, a wireless broadband card and so much more, I live the tech gadget life to the hilt,” Ray said. “How we use technology is important.”
Ray would know. In addition to running his own technology consulting firm, he writes and manages his own blog – smallbiztechnology.com – and finds time to organize a five-city technology tour and the annual Small Business Technology Summit in New York. He credits his ability to juggle multiple projects to his use of the latest technology gadgets.
“The smart business owner understands the importance of technology and how it can help you to get a handle on your schedule and to prioritize your obligations,” said Ray.
Since Ray is a young entrepreneur who is making a name for himself in the technology world, I asked him to provide some insight for entrepreneurs on some of the coolest time management gadgets available.
Here’s a look at his top six tools:
- Asana.com – is a collaborative task management application. The product has such features as workspaces, projects, personal projects, tasks, tags, notes, comments and an Inbox. It enables individuals and teams to plan and manage their projects and tasks.
- File sharing – ensures that team members or employees have access to critical files that normally are in a traditional office, but in this case, can be accessed via the internet. It allows team members to work from just about any place where there’s an internet connection.
- Drop Box – is an example of a file sharing tool that allows remote access. Files stored within Drop Box become instantly accessible to all users or team members on the system.
- Mobile broadband – also referred to as WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network), essentially is high-speed internet access from mobile providers for portable devises. “If there’s no wi-fi in a facility, you can still get Internet access,” said Ray.
- Cloud Computing – basically infrastructure as a service, and it’s all the rage, according to infoworld.com It involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that’s often used to represent the internet in flowcharts and diagrams. - Smart phones –they’ve been around for a while and offer features that you might find on a personal digital assistant or a computer. A smart phone also offers the ability to send and receive e-mail and edit Office documents.
“It gives you access to a whole other world,” says Ray. “Knowing how to use it makes you more productive. It helps you to work smarter.”
With that said, keep in mind that every tool is not for everyone. The key, says Ray, is to educate yourself first to determine which tools are best for you and how they can help you to be more effective in what you do.
